Ramsey: He never gives up and he was in the right place at the right time again. It took us until the 88th minute to break them down but we did it in the end.
on a frustrating night…
Mertesacker: Not at all, we just kept going and we always believed in ourselves and it paid off completely. They were one man down, we were a bit lucky because they had an injured player but we kept going and we deserved it in the end because we never gave up.
on capitalising on Southampton having 10 men…
Ramsey: We tried to do that anyway. We never go into a game wanting to draw it, we always want to try and win the game. It took until the latter stages of the game but we kept believing and it finally paid off.
on what this win says about the team…
Mertesacker: We showed great spirit again. We needed that win desperately tonight because everyone won yesterday so we were a bit under pressure but I think we did well.
on the title race and the Premier League…
Ramsey: We've got to go on a winning run now. We've won our last three games now so hopefully we can continue that throughout the Christmas period.
Mertesacker: We want to continue this run and be more consistent than what we have shown this season - that's our target. In the Christmas period it's going to be busy but we're up for it.
on chasing the top teams…
Mertesacker: We dropped a few points and now it's up to us to cope with the situation. Everyone knows we have potential and now we have to show it.
