Szczesny - I respect Lukasz's friendship

Wojciech Szczesny says that he will always respect his friendship with Lukasz Fabianski even though they will be at opposite ends of the pitch on Sunday.

Szczesny and Fabianski spent three seasons battling for the No 1 shirt at Arsenal and continue to compete for a spot in the Poland national team.

Despite training so closely with a direct competitor, Szczesny insists the two have always been, and will remain, good friends.

"We respect each other and the competition we had but most of all we respect our friendship"

“Lukasz has always been an example to follow,” the 24-year-old explained. “From day one he’s been very professional and very friendly with everyone at the club.

“It wasn’t good to see him go but he had a chance to play regularly in the Premier League and he took it, so he’s doing very well this season and I’m happy for him.

“When you’re No 2 you’re a bit frustrated but it never had any effect on my friendship with Lukasz. We have been very good friends for 10 years now. We respect each other and the competition we had but most of all we respect our friendship."
