Santi Cazorla admits he has been taken aback by how good Calum Chambers has been since he signed for the club this summer.
The 19-year-old has made an instant impression and was rewarded for his early-season form on Thursday with a first call up to the England squad.
Cazorla is a confirmed admirer, and believes the teenager is only going to get better under the tutelage of Arsene Wenger.
"Honestly up until today he's surprised me for good in training and also in the games we have played"
“Calum Chambers has surprised me for good,” the Spaniard told Arsenal Player. “He is very young and I knew he was playing for Southampton last season and that he also played few games at a high level.
“But you always have the high expectations over hot prospects like him. And honestly up until today he's surprised me for good in training and also in the games we have played so far.
“With him I'm sure we'll have a quality defender for the future.”
Cazorla has also been pleased with Alexis Sanchez’s arrival at the club, and believes the Chile international will prove a major asset this season.
“He can play in several positions at front: he's already played in the right wing and also as a centre-forward,” he said. “He'll provide us with variety in attack, with his winning mentality and also with his self-demanding spirit. He'll transmit a lot to the team as well.
“He has the conditions to succeed here at Arsenal. If he managed to do so at Udinese and also at Barcelona, why couldn't he do so here in the Premier League? He's a player that wants to improve every day.
“He [is not simply satisfied] with what he's achieved. He wants to keep succeeding and he'll be an important player for Arsenal.”
