Scott - More trophies within our reach

Alex Scott

Alex Scott still believes Arsenal Ladies can complete a clean sweep of trophies this season after their convincing 3-0 victory against Chelsea in the Continental Cup.

Scott and her team-mates endured a tough start in the Women’s Super League but they won the FA Women's Cup and have rediscovered their form under caretaker manager John Bayer. Sunday’s emphatic win kept alive their hopes of winning more trophies.

“It was a really professional performance by all of us,” Scott told Arsenal.com. “We looked solid at the back and we finished the job with another great goal from Kelly Smith. Overall, it couldn’t have gone any better."

Sunday’s match was Arsenal’s first Continental Cup tie since their 2-0 defeat against Reading in May, and Scott revealed how the scheduling of cup games can disrupt the team's progress in the league.

“We would have liked this to have been a league game to carry on that momentum and pick up some points, but we’ve got a string of cup games now and we’re still in the competition with this result,” she said. “We want to be in the hunt for all trophies.

“It’s about winning trophies as a team. It doesn’t matter whether it’s the FA Cup, the Continental Cup or the league - we want to win them all. To still be in with a chance of doing that is great.

“The slip-up against Reading didn’t help but the performance here has now put us in good stead to stay in the competition and do well.”

The 29-year-old also praised Arsenal’s new signing Turid Knaak, who is on loan from Bayer Leverkusen, and the influential Jordan Nobbs, who played her first game of the season after recovering from a back injury.

“People are going to get playing time and it’s about challenging people for places, which means that nobody can be complacent,” said Scott. “Turid is really pacy and Jordan had a big impact coming off the bench.

“Her energy and quality on the ball was a huge miss but all teams suffer injuries so it’s not something you can get down about. We’re glad to have her back, though. It’s like a new signing for the second half of the season.”
