Congratulations to Per Mertesacker, who has reached 100 caps for Germany after being named in the starting XI for their World Cup game against Ghana.

The defender becomes the 13th Germany player to achieve a century of appearances, following in the footsteps of Arsenal team-mate Lukas Podolski.

Mertesacker made his international debut in October 2004, coming on as a substitute against Iran. Currently playing in this third World Cup, the 29-year-old has held down a starting berth throughout the last 18 months and will be looking to help Joachim Low's side to glory after two successive third-placed finishes.

He was also ever-present for Germany during their Euro 2008 campaign and has four international goals to his name.
