Willow to honour London legends

Bob & Megs Wilson with Ian Wright

London’s footballing heroes will be recognised at the annual London Football Legends Awards this Thursday, March 6, in aid of Arsenal Football Club’s official charity partner, Willow Foundation.

With a host of stellar footballing names set to be in attendance, the charity dinner at the Grange Tower Bridge Hotel in London will showcase the best of the capital’s footballing scene against a backdrop of great entertainment, raising much needed funds for Bob Wilson’s charity that provides unique special days for seriously ill 16 to 40 year olds.

Arsenal is set to be well represented on the night, with Aaron Ramsey and Per Mertesacker both nominated for the London Player of the Year Award for 2013/14. Gunners Legend, Pat Rice, is shortlisted in the Outstanding Contribution to a London Club category.
Nominees for the awards have been selected by an expert judging panel which includes the likes of talkSPORT presenters, Paul Hawksbee & Andy Jacobs, Evening Standard chief football correspondent, James Olley and Sky Sports commentator, Dickie Davis, as well as Bob Wilson himself.

Willow Foundation was announced as an official charity partner of Arsenal Football Club in May 2012 and thanks to a donation of £100,000 over three seasons, The Arsenal Foundation is providing valuable support to Willow as it aims to give more seriously ill young people the chance to achieve a dream or return some normality back to their lives.

Arsenal and Willow have enjoyed a close association over a number of years and the Club’s Charity of the Season partnership in 2006/07 helped to raise in excess of £200,000 via a range of exciting fundraising and awareness activities.

To date, Willow has fulfilled more than 10,000 Special Days for young people living with life-threatening conditions such as cancer, cystic fibrosis, motor neurone disease, muscular dystrophy, organ failure and Huntington’s.
