'The players showed their character'

Shelley Kerr
Shelley Kerr will preside over her first cup final since becoming Ladies boss

Shelley Kerr spoke to Arsenal.com after Arsenal Ladies came from behind to beat Bristol Academy 4-2 and qualify for the semi-finals of the Continental Cup.

on the performance...
[It was] frustrating and annoying. At one stage we were so far ahead and looking comfortable and we let them back into the game, but overall we’re delighted because we’re now in the semi-final of the Continental Cup. We made a few changes to the team today and changed the shape within the game so there were lots of positives.

on getting an early goal in the second half...
We had some words at half-time and they knew themselves that they needed to do better. It was the response we were hoping for and we got it. Fair play to the players, they showed they have good character and that they’re winners. As soon as you mention what’s at stake they seem to up the ante.

on momentum...
It was important for us to win today because we’ve not had any luck in front of goal. To come and score four goals was really pleasing. Scoring goals is vitally important for us.

on the absence of Gilly Flaherty...
She had a sickness bug this morning, a 24-hour bug.

on Kelly Smith’s chances of making the FA Cup final next week...
She’s progressing really well. She’s been doing some light training but that’s as much as we can say at this moment in time.
