Matt Macey joins Plymouth Argyle on loan

Goalkeeper Matt Macey has joined League One side Plymouth Argyle on loan for the season.

The 23-year-old made two first-team appearances last season – against Red Star Belgrade in the UEFA Europa League and Norwich City in the Carabao Cup.

Matt, who joined us from Bristol Rovers five seasons ago, moves to the Pilgrims to gain more first-team experience, having already enjoyed loan spells at Accrington Stanley and Luton Town.

We would like to wish Matt well this season.


Joao Virginia joins Everton

Goalkeeper Joao Virginia has joined Everton for an undisclosed fee.

The 18-year-old signed for us from Benfica in summer 2015 and featured for our under-18s and under-23s.

Joao has represented his country up to under-20 level and was included in Portugal’s squad for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Brazil, also helping Portugal Under-19s to win this summer's European Championship.

We would like to thank Joao for his contribution to the club and wish him well for the future.

The transfer is subject to the completion of regulatory processes.


Emile Smith Rowe signs new contract  

Emile Smith Rowe has signed a new long-term contract with us.

The 18-year-old was part of the first-team squad that travelled to Singapore for our pre-season tour and made his mark with a superb goal against Atletico Madrid in the International Champions Cup.
He also provided an assist for Alexandre Lacazette in our 5-1 win over PSG on Saturday.

The Hale End graduate joined us at the age of 10 and made 11 appearances for our under-23s last season and was also a regular for our under-18s.
He made his first appearance for the first-team earlier this month in the pre-season friendly against Boreham Wood in Unai Emery’s first match as head coach.
Emile is an England youth international was part of the team that won the FIFA Under-17 World Cup last year in India.
Emery said: “I am pleased with Emile’s contribution so far this pre-season. He is working very hard and has lots of potential. I look forward to working with him and the other young players and helping them to develop as Arsenal players.”


U-23s to start PL2 season at Man City

Our under-23s will start their defence of the Premier League 2 with a trip to Manchester City on August 11.

Freddie Ljungberg’s side will then host Brighton & Hove Albion at Emirates Stadium, before a trip to the London Stadium to take on West Ham United.

Our first north London derby of the campaign is on August 31 at Emirates Stadium, with the reverse fixture taking place on February 15.

We will close the season by hosting Leicester City at the Emirates on April 26.

Deyan Iliev signs contract extension

Goalkeeper Deyan Iliev has signed a new contract with the club.

The 23-year-old played eight times for our under-23s last season, and was also included in the first-team squad for our Carabao Cup win over Norwich City in October.
Deyan signed for us in summer 2012, following a spell at FK Belasica. He is a Macedonia Under-21 international.
Everyone at Arsenal looks forward to Deyan’s continued development at the club.
