Loan Watch: Okonkwo named in Team of the Season

Arthur Okonkwo has been named as the best goalkeeper in League Two by the EFL after helping Wrexham to back-to-back promotions.

The Gunners loanee played 90 minutes of Tuesday’s 4-1 win at home to Crawley Town, before keeping a clean sheet in Saturday’s emphatic 6-0 victory over Forest Green Rovers, which secured automatic promotion to League One.

With 13 clean sheets in 34 league appearances, Arthur has played a big part in an exciting time for Wrexham.

Last week was also a good one for Marquinhos, who scored his second goal in two games with the opener in Fluminense’s 2-1 win at home to Colo-Colo on Wednesday, cutting in from the right and curling into the far corner from distance.

He also assisted the second goal with a cross for German Cano.

The win lifted Fluminense to the top of Group A of the Copa Libertadores. They are also ninth at the beginning of the new Campeonato Brasileiro Seria A season after Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Bragantino, which Marquinhos played 90 minutes off.

Back in the Football League, Brooke Norton-Cuffy helped Millwall to back-to-back wins last week, initially coming on in the 89th minute of Tuesday’s 1-0 win at home to Leicester City.

He was then introduced in the 84th minute of Saturday’s 3-1 win at home to Cardiff City and assisted the final goal of the game, scored by Duncan Watmore, by winning the ball on the right wing and putting a cross into the box.

The Lions are up to 16th in the Championship, three points behind Swansea City, who are 14th, following Wednesday’s 3-0 win at home to Stoke City - which Charlie Patino came on in the 83rd minute of - and Saturday’s 1-0 win at home to Rotherham United.

In the Premier League, Nuno Tavares returned to Nottingham Forest as a late substitute in Saturday’s 2-2 draw at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers. Forest are now 17th in the topflight, one point ahead of Luton Town.

Overseas, Mika Biereth played 79 minutes of SK Sturm Graz’s 3-1 win way to TSV Hartberg on Sunday. Sturm Graz are now second in Group A of the Austrian Bundesliga play-offs, level on points with Red Bull Salzburg at the top.

Elsewhere, Salah-Eddine Oulad M’Hand played 66 minutes for FC Den Bosch on Monday as they won 2-0 away to Jong Ajax to go 19th in the Eerste Divisie.

In League One, Khayon Edwards came on at half-time at Leyton Orient lost 3-0 away to Derby County on Saturday. The Os are tenth in the third tier with 62 points.

Bromley are third in the Vanarama National League with two games to go after Saturday’s 3-0 win at home to Solihull Moors, which Alex Kirk came on in the 76th minute of.

One tier below, Billy Vigar played 60 minutes of Eastbourne Borough’s 0-0 draw away to Truro City on Wednesday, before missing out on Saturday’s 3-0 win at home to Chippenham Town. Eastbourne are 20th in the National League South, three points above the relegation zone with two games to play.

In women’s football, Ruby Doe secured a 2-0 win for Ipswich Town at home to Hashtag United on Sunday with the second goal in added time. The Tractor Girls are now fifth in the FA WPL Premier Division South.

Giovana Queiroz played 61 minutes for Madrid CFF in Sunday’s 2-2 draw away to UD Tenerife. Madrid are fourth in the Primera Division, one point behind Levante.

Last but not least, Michelle Agyemang and Laila Harbert were both involved in Watford’s 2-0 defeat at home to Charlton Athletic on Sunday. Watford remain bottom of the FA Women’s Championship with 12 points from 20 games.
