Katie McCabe signs new deal

We are delighted to confirm that Katie McCabe has signed a new contract here at Arsenal.

The Republic of Ireland captain has made 193 appearances for us since joining the club from Shelbourne in December 2015, scoring 31 goals along the way.

Katie has won one Barclays FA Women’s Super League title, one Women’s FA Cup and two FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cups during her time at Arsenal.

Last season, Katie made 38 appearances in all competitions for us and played a key role as we won the Conti Cup, reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Women’s Champions League and secured a third-place finish in the WSL. Katie wore the captain’s armband on several occasions during the latter part of the campaign.

In recognition of her stellar campaign, Katie was named our 2022/23 Player of the Season presented by Mastercard, won the WSL Goal of the Season trophy for her stunning strike against Manchester City at Meadow Park on 3 April 2023, and was named in the UEFA Women's Champions League Team of the Season. She has also been nominated for the 2023 Ballon d’Or.

At international level, Katie captained the Republic of Ireland in their first appearance at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand over the summer, and scored the team’s first-ever goal in the competition with a stunning strike direct from a corner.

“Arsenal is home for me and I’m excited to have committed my future to this football club,” said Katie. “I’ve grown up here as a player and a person and developed a really special bond with our supporters, which means a lot to me.

"Over the years, I’ve experienced some amazing moments here – but I believe that the best is yet to come and I know the aim here at Arsenal is to compete for the highest honours.”

Head Coach Jonas Eidevall said: “Katie McCabe brings us so much on and off the pitch, so we are delighted to say that she has signed a new contract here with us. She has been one of the top performers in world football over the past few years and her quality and character are integral to what we do here.

"We were very proud to see how she stepped up as captain when called upon last season and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can achieve together moving forward.”

Head of Women’s Football Clare Wheatley said: “We’re delighted that Katie has signed a new deal here at Arsenal. Katie is in the prime of her career and is such a big part of what we are building at the club, so it is great news that she will remain an Arsenal player for years to come.

"I’m sure our supporters will join me in congratulating Katie and will are looking forward to seeing her and her team-mates in action at the Emirates on Sunday.”
