Joe Montemurro was named Women’s Super League Manager of the Month for October on Monday - and Leah Williamson was delighted to hear the news.
The England international started in all three of our league victories in October, as we scored 15 goals and totalled over 270 minutes without conceding.
“I’m so happy for him and I know a lot of the girls will be too,” Williamson told Arsenal.com. “We’ve credited a lot of the stuff we’ve been playing to Joe and he’ll probably say the same about us, but he really is a gem. We’re lucky to have him.
“Looking at those games I think anybody would have questioned whether we could get three wins, let alone the result we’ve picked up, so all credit to Joe because he’s really brought that out of us. Of course I beleived that we could win all of those games, but the style and fashion that we’ve done it in has been incredible, and that’s what he brings to this team.”
Montemurro joined the club in November 2017 - and since then we’ve only tasted defeat on three occasions in all competitions.
“He took us back to basics and built us from the bottom again,” said Williamson. “He recognised that needed to happen, but he’s just created an environment where our talent can shine through.
“He allows everybody in our team to flourish and we’re seeing the results of that now. Joe’s helped me progress as a player in the areas that I really wanted to and I suppose I’m seeing the results of that when I join up with the national team too.”
