We’ve won all three of our Premier League home matches this season.
After our 2-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion on Monday, Arsène Wenger spoke to the media and discussed our form at the Emirates, the visitors’ penalty appeal and Mohamed Elneny’s performance.
on the performance…
In the first half it was difficult because they are physically very strong, very mobile, they disturbed our build up and went very direct. It took us some time to adapt to that. In the second half we controlled the game much more, they dropped a little bit in their intensity and then it became more comfortable for us. Overall it finished in a comfortable way, but the first half was a bit nervy.
on Lacazette…
He’s not only a goalscorer, his link up play is good. He fights as well, he’s not fazed by the physical challenges that West Brom gave us today and overall he looks to adapt very quickly and very well.
on Mustafi's potential penalty…
The referee left the advantage and they nearly scored from that, they hit the post and I think the decision is defendable on both sides had he given a penalty or not. He left the advantage, if he gives a penalty and doesn’t give the advantage and they miss the penalty then you say why did he not leave the advantage, it’s this kind of situation.
on a third consecutive home win…
Look I don’t go in definite conclusions as quickly as you, but what is important is we are strong at home. We have played six games now, three difficult away games at Chelsea, at Liverpool, at Stoke and overall it’s important we keep our home strength. We know we can make results away from home and we’ll do that, so what was very important for us tonight was the three points because everybody else won and you’re under pressure not to drop points tonight.
on Elneny…
I felt that he did very well. I am very pleased with his performance tonight, but he played on Wednesday in the League Cup, he played the week before against Cologne, so that shows as well when the guys get the games, they gain fitness and confidence.
on the team being in a different place…
Yes of course we are in a different position, a different mental aspect as well, but we know we live in a world where when you miss a game like where we did at Liverpool, you face a very difficult environment afterwards. But there’s only one way to respond, that is to show your character and respond with results on the pitch.
