Havertz on "dream" goal and relationship with fans

Kai Havertz admitted that it is a dream to net the crucial winner to beat Brentford and send us to the top of the Premier League.

The German striker continued his red-hot form by scoring for the fourth league game in succession to salvage a battling win against the Bees to string together an eighth successive victory.

And to be our matchwinner and have his name ringing around Emirates Stadium was something our forward suggested were moments he could only have hoped for growing up wanting to be a professional footballer.

“As a kid, I think you dream that you're going to have moments like this in your career and today I had something like this,” he said. “[The supporters] made it very special to me and I'm very thankful to have this moment. Thank you to all of them.”

On the special connection he has built with our fanbase so quickly, Kai added: “You always hope for that. I know maybe it wasn't from the beginning but I always try to work hard and just doesn't drop my confidence. I just give my best every game and I did it so I'm happy now that I’ve had some of those moments now.

“I’m very delighted, it was a big game for us. To play in these games and win it at the end is always very nice and it was a great feeling.”

Kai took his tally up to eight in all competitions since his summer arrival, and having already popped up with a last-gasp winner to beat the Bees in the previous league meeting this term, he was thrilled that lightning struck twice.

Reflecting on his big moment, he added: “I was just hoping that Ben would find me and it was a very nice cross. I was very free in the box and then obviously also a bit lucky with the goalkeeper but it was a very nice assist from Ben.

“I'm happy but I always want to become better and better. I know football always goes up and down and one week you're the hero and the next week not, so I just try to work hard and keep the momentum going to help the team.”
