Giroud - The defence did a great job

The forwards may have stolen the headlines as we stormed to our biggest win of the season on Wednesday night, but two-goal hero Olivier Giroud was quick to highlight the contribution of the defenders.

We kept our third consecutive Premier League clean sheet in the 5-0 win over Huddersfield, and the defence came under pressure for much of the first hour.

"We killed the game off in the final 25 minutes but it's true we could have scored before, but they were always dangerous on counter attacks," Giroud said.

“We had to be very cautious at the back and we defended very well. I thought all the defenders played very well. They didn't let Huddersfield come out and put good pressure on the strikers. They did a great job."

Giroud netted a second-half brace to take his seasonal tally to five, and believes the team's performance on Wednesday is the perfect preparation for Saturday's clash with Manchester United.

"We are on a good run, we want to carry on and keep it up,” he said. “Obviously we have a massive game this weekend and it's nice to have the confidence high to start this kind of game."
