Caitlin Foord had a debut to remember as she scored the opening goal in our 2-0 Women’s FA Cup victory over Lewes.
The Australia international played the full 90 minutes as we advanced into the quarter-finals with a hard-fought victory at Meadow Park.
We spoke to Foord after the full-time whistle and this is what she said:
on scoring on her debut…
It’s always a nice feeling when the ball hits the back of the net. To do it here today was exciting as well, I’ll score goals but my focus as a player is to win as a team and at the end of the day I don’t really care who scores, but if it is me I’m happy and I’m really happy to score and help the team today.
on breaking Lewes down…
They were quite difficult to break down and for us it was about getting into rhythm. For us going into the next game it was important to do that and we just try and play our football and we had no doubt the goals would come it was just when it was going to happen. Once we got the one and we had plenty of other chances as well so any other day it could have been more.
on the Continental League Cup final on Saturday…
I’m excited to play in a cup final. It’s quite cool to come into a team and go straight into a final and I feel really lucky to be a part of. I’m just looking forward to it and helping the team as much as I can.
on her aims until the end of the season…
I want to keep building with the team and building as a player, that’s why I’m here. I feel like I’m still developing and still learning so I want to grow as a player alongside this club.
