 Ahead of Arsenal Ladies’ new Women’s Super League season, find out about Pedro Martinez Losa’s squad as they look to improve on last year’s Continental Cup success.

 

Pedro Martinez Losa ManagerPedro Martinez Losa ManagerPedro joined the Gunners from West New York Flash in September 2014. In his first full season in charge, the Spaniard won the Continental Cup having also previously claimed three titles in Spain with Rayo Vallecano Femenino. The manager bases his philosophy on retaining possession, fast transitional play and a strong defensive shape.

 

 

Emma Byrne GoalkeeperEmma Byrne GoalkeeperExperienced goalkeeper Emma is Arsenal’s longest-serving player, having been at the club since 2000, and boasts an impressive trophy cabinet with 29 honours. The shot-stopper is also an established international for the Republic of Ireland and has won over 100 caps.

 

 

Sari Van Veenendaal GoalkeeperSari van Veenendaal GoalkeeperEntering her second year with the club following her arrival last summer from FC Twente, Sari has established herself as Losa’s first-choice goalkeeper. Tall and commanding in the box, the shot-stopper was pivotal to Arsenal’s Continental Cup success last year.

 

 

Alex Scott DefenderAlex Scott DefenderClub captain Alex is in her third spell with the Gunners following her return in 2012 from a two-year stint with Boston Breakers. The energetic right back’s finest moment in an Arsenal shirt came in 2007, when her strike against Umea IK made the north London side the first English team to win the Uefa Women’s Cup, and rounded off an historic quadruple.

 

 

Emma Mitchell DefenderEmma Mitchell DefenderLeft back Emma joined Arsenal in 2013 following a short spell at German side SGS Essen and has established herself as an integral part of Losa’s defence. A Scottish international, the defender is strong in the tackle and capable in offensive positions.

 

 

Vyan Sampson DefenderVyan Sampson DefenderA product of Arsenal’s Centre of Excellence programme, Vyan made her Women’s Super League debut in 2014. The quick centre back has shown plenty of promise and will be hoping to continue her development under Losa.

 

 

Casey Stoney DefenderCasey Stoney DefenderThe 2015 season could not have gone any better for Casey. The defender won the Continental Cup, helped England Lionesses finish third at the World Cup and was awarded an MBE as recognition for her services to football. The vice-captain will be hoping for an even more fruitful campaign this time around.

 

 

Jemma Rose DefenderJemma Rose DefenderTough-tackling Jemma forged a solid defensive partnership with Casey Stoney last year. Entering her second season with the Gunners since her arrival from Bristol Academy in 2014, the centre back is also the club’s community ambassador.

 

 

Josephine Henning DefenderJosephine Henning DefenderThree-times Champions League winner Josephine joined Arsenal Ladies on a free transfer from Paris Saint-German this season. A regular for Germany and winner of the Uefa Women’s Championship in 2013, “Josi” is a commanding centre back with plenty of experience.

 

 

Dominique Janssen Defender/midfielderDominique Janssen DefenderComfortable in defence or in midfield, Dominique joined Arsenal last summer from SGS Essen after two years with the German club. The Dutch international was part of the Netherlands' squad at the 2015 World Cup and fulfilled a number of roles for the Gunners in her debut season.

 

 

Vicky Losada MidfielderVicky Losada MidfielderFormer Barcelona captain Vicky arrived with Losa in 2015 following a short stint at Western New York Flash. The Spain international has established herself as a vital cog in midfield with her clever passing and composure in possession.

 

 

Fara Williams MidfielderFara WilliamsMidfielder England Lionesses’ most capped player of all time, Fara joined the Gunners this season from Liverpool Ladies. With over 150 caps to her name, Fara is considered one of the nation’s greatest players and has been awarded an MBE in recognition of her services to football.

 

 

Jordan Nobbs MidfielderJordan Nobbs MidfielderDespite missing a large chunk of last season due to injury, Jordan more than made up with her match-winning display in the Continental Cup final against Notts County. The midfielder scored twice in spectacular fashion to make sure the Gunners finished the campaign with silverware. England Lionesses’ vice-captain, the former Sunderland player is also the daughter of Hartlepool legend Keith Nobbs.

 

 

Leah Williamson Midfielder Leah Williamson MidfielderLeah was named PFA Women’s Young Player of the year in 2015 and has continued to develop at an impressive rate since progressing through Arsenal’s Centre of Excellence. The midfielder has been at the club since the age of nine and is a regular in the England Under-19 team.

 

 

Marta Corredera Midfielder Marta Corredera MidfielderSpeedy winger Marta joined Arsenal from Barcelona last summer, having won four consecutive league titles with the Catalan club between 2012 and 2015. The Spaniard’s debut season in England only enhanced her reputation.

 

 

Danielle Van de Donk Midfielder Danielle van de Donk MidfielderDanielle joined the Gunners this season from Swedish side Gothenburg and arrives as an established international for the Netherlands. Part of the Dutch squad that went to the 2015 World Cup in Canada, Van de Donk will be looking to make an impression in her debut campaign in English football.

 

 

Dan Carter ForwardDan Carter ForwardComfortable on the wings or as a lone striker, Dan has established herself as an integral part of Losa’s side. Her impressive form saw the forward progress from England Under-23s to the senior squad and she scored a hat-trick on her debut against Estonia. 

 

 

Natalia ForwardNatalia ForwardNatalia’s composure in front of goal made her Arsenal’s top goalscorer last season. The striker was reunited with Losa in 2014 having previously worked with him at Rayo Vallecano. During her 13 years at the Spanish side, Natalia scored over 300 goals.

 

 

Kelly Smith ForwardKelly Smith ForwardPlayer-coach and an MBE, Kelly is one of the greatest female footballers of all time. The forward is England Lionesses' leading goalscorer and has featured in the top five of the FIFA World Player of the Year awards on four occasions. In her third spell with the club, Kelly will focus on playing this year but will be on hand to help Losa with coaching duties.

 

 

Chloe Kelly ForwardChloe Kelly ForwardAnother graduate from Arsenal’s Centre of Excellence, Chloe recently signed a new long-term contract with the Gunners. The teenager made an instant impact on her debut in 2015 with a goal after 22 minutes against Watford. A regular in England’s youth set-up, Kelly has a bright future ahead of her.

 

 

Asisat Oshoala ArsenalAsisat Oshoala ForwardBBC Women’s Footballer of the Year winner in 2015, Asisat joined the Gunners this season from Liverpool Ladies. The striker is a regular in Nigeria’s squad and was voted the best player at the African Women’s Championship in 2014.

 

 

Katie McCabe ForwardKatie McCabeForwardKatie joined Arsenal in December 2015 from Irish side Shelbourne Ladies and arrives with Women’s Champions League experience. The forward may be small in stature, but she packs a punch when it comes to taking players on and shooting from range.
