Euro 2020: Xhaka ends group stage in third

Switzerland's Euro 2020 group stage came to an end on Sunday night, with Granit Xhaka captaining them to a 3-1 win over Turkey in Baku.

Xherdan Shaqiri struck twice after Haris Seferovic opened the scoring, as the Swiss finished third in Group A. Xhaka played the entirety of the match in central midfield and even came close to grabbing a fourth goal for his country, but his low free-kick rebounded off the foot of the post.

Switzerland now have to wait to see if their four points will be enough to see them progress to the knock-out stage alongside group winners Italy and runners-up Wales. Four of the six teams who finish third will make it through to the last-16, with their respective results collated into a one-off table.

As with the normal group tiebreaker, if points are level then goal difference and goals scored will come into play to determine who makes it through and who goes home. It's sure to be an anxious wait for Xhaka and his team-mates.

Meanwhile, the other nations will be completing their group-stage fixtures and the next Arsenal involvement will come on Tuesday in Group D, when Kieran Tierney's Scotland face Croatia and Bukayo Saka's England take on Czech Republic. Both home nations need big performances to book their place in the next round.
