Emi Martinez has joined Aston Villa in permanent transfer.
The Argentinean international goalkeeper, a hugely popular figure around the club, signed for us 10 years ago in August 2010 from home city side Independiente.
Emi, 28, started the last 11 matches of the 2019/20 season, performing superbly and continuing this form into this season for our Community Shield penalty shoot-out victory over Liverpool. He was an ever-present on our road to winning the Emirates FA Cup, conceding just three goals in the six matches along the way to lifting the trophy.
In total Emi made 39 first-team appearances, spending loan spells with six clubs – Oxford United, Sheffield Wednesday, Rotherham United, Wolves, Getafe and Reading – in order to develop his experience.
Emi requested to personally say goodbye to the club and the Arsenal fans. We spent some time with Emi before he left, and you can see the interview by pressing the 'Play' button above.
Everyone at Arsenal thanks Emi for his contribution to club over the past 10 years and we wish him all the best for the future.
The transfer is subject to the completion of regulatory processes.
