Club to receive Bank of England COVID loan

Emirates Stadium

As we continue to work through the implications of the global pandemic on our finances, we can confirm today that the club has met the criteria set by the Bank of England for the Covid Corporate Financing Facility (CCFF).

As a result, we are taking a short-term £120 million loan through this facility to partially assist in managing the impact of the revenue losses attributable to the pandemic. This is a similar approach to that taken by a wide variety of major organisations across many industries including sport, and is repayable in May 2021.

The CCFF is designed to provide short-term finance at commercial rates during the pandemic to companies that have strong investment ratings and which make significant contributions to the British economy.

The CCFF is in addition to the loan provided by our owners Kroenke, Sports & Entertainment that enabled us to refinance the debt on Emirates Stadium in August last year.

Loan Watch: Saliba stars and claims clean sheet

William Saliba

William Saliba picked up his first win and the first clean sheet of his loan spell with Nice on Saturday.

Our centre-back played the full match as Nice beat Lens 1-0 on the road, courtesy of a second-half strike from Youcef Atal, and attracted rave reviews for his performance.

Matteo Guendouzi played the full match as Hertha Berlin fell to their second defeat in a row in the Bundesliga, this time losing 4-1 to Werder Bremen at home. Our midfielder has started every game for his new club since the international break in mid-November, but was powerless to prevent them slipping to another defeat.

Werder Bremen struck early through Davie Selke and Omer Toprak before Jhon Cordoba got one back for Hertha before half time. The visitors then scored twice more in the second half, with Leonardo Bittencourt and Joshua Sargent both notching to seal a comfortable win.

Lucas Torreira played just six minutes for Atletico Madrid on Sunday. Diego Simeone’s side ran out 3-1 winners at home to Valencia to stay seven points clear of Real Madrid at the top of La Liga.

Valencia took the lead after 11 minutes through Uros Racic before goals from Joao Felix, Luis Suarez and Angel Correa gave Torreira’s side all three points.

Harry Clarke played the full match as Oldham beat Newport 3-2 at home this weekend. Clarke, who extended his loan spell at Oldham on Friday, helped his side pick up their first win since the reverse fixture against Newport in December.

Jake Scrimshaw opened the scoring in the third minute before goals from Davis Keillor-Dunn and Bobby Grant gave Oldham the lead after half an hour. Luke Gambin then struck for Newport to see the sides go in level at the break. The game was eventually settled with 16 minutes on the clock when Mickey Demetriou put the ball into his own net.

Mark McGuinness played the full match as Blackpool lost 1-0 to Peterborough at Portman Road. Jonson Clarke-Harris missed a first-half penalty for the visitors before McGuinness scored an own goal to hand Peterborough the points.

Matt Smith played 22 minutes as Swindon drew 2-2 with Charlton at The Valley. Swindon went in at half time 2-0 up through Hallam Hope and Matt Palmer but Charlton came back in the second half. Chuks Aneke gave the hosts hope before a 90th minute strike from Andrew Shinnie ensured the points were shared.

Ben Sheaf played 12 minutes as Coventry were beaten 3-0 by Reading at the Madejski Stadium in the Championship. Our young midfielder replaced Matthew James late on after goals from Lucas Joao, Andy Rinomhota and John Swift settled the game.
