Celebrating World Down Syndrome Day

Arsenal in the Community have worked in partnership with North London United for the last four years to run weekly inclusive football sessions for young people with Down Syndrome.

To celebrate World Down Syndrome Day, our participants were invited to the Watford home fixture where they met Per Mertesacker and received awards in front of thousands of supporters, before enjoying the game from the Arsenal Sensory Room. They also took part in a celebratory football festival to mark the day.

Arsenal in the Community coach Dan Openshaw said: β€œWe look to offer these opportunities for our groups whenever possible. The focus is always the celebration of the amazing personalities we work with rather than the competitive element, although it is always fantastic to represent Arsenal in opportunities like this.

β€œWe have been involved with North London United for the last four years and being a part of the lives of these young people as they grow up has been humbling. It’s why we all look forward to Monday evenings.”
