'Aubameyang is more than just a goalscorer'

Alex Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Alex Lacazette has seen Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's qualities closer than most and says his strike partner should be seen as more than just a goalscorer.

The Gabon international scored twice against Everton on Sunday to move to joint-top of the Premier League goalscoring charts, but it was his willingness to track back and defend that also caught the eye.

"I think people should talk more about Auba and what he is doing in the game because he is more than a goalscorer," Lacazette said.

"He is working a lot for the team defensively and making space for the other striker - Eddie or me - and I think if we start to win more trophies, people will talk more about what he is doing for the team.

"He's one of the best or maybe he's been the best player this season for Arsenal. Obviously I hope he's going to stay."

Lacazette has scored twice in his past two games, and admits it was a relief after suffering a mini-drought in front of goal.

"There is a pressure but it's more about me because I want to score and I want to help my team," he said.

"Obviously I'm a striker but I'm not only here to score goals. I have to help the team to defend, to build up the game. For me it's not the best thing when I'm not scoring, but [the staff and my team-mates] helped me through this.

"I really enjoyed my goal against Newcastle, because it was a long time that I didn't score. And obviously, the way my team-mates celebrated with me showed the mentality that we have now in the group. So it's only positive things about this group."
