Arsenal & WorldRemit make dream come true

World Remit journalist piece

Together with WorldRemit, we teamed up with sports journalist and broadcaster Jordan Jarrett-Bryan to mentor aspiring journalist (and huge Arsenal fan) Harvey, and provide him with some unforgettable work experience.

Jordan talked to Harvey about his own career and passed on some invaluable guidance about the industry, how to build his portfolio of work, and how to conduct media interviews.

Following the mentoring session, Harvey and Jordan interviewed Granit Xhaka, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Cedric Soares, discussing their early life, role models and the importance of diversity.

The players spoke about the importance of diversity in all areas of life and how they have all benefited from the opportunities to learn from each other, while always having respect for different cultures.

The international backgrounds of Xhaka, who was born to Albanian parents in Switzerland, Soares - who was born in Germany to Portuguese parents - and Maitland-Niles, who was born in north-east London, demonstrates the wealth of diversity and global talent at Arsenal.

“As an international company that serves customers across the globe, we greatly value diversity. It is at the heart of what we do and is reflected in our workforce. We’re proud to celebrate diversity on and off the pitch while continuing to create opportunities that bring people closer to making their dreams come true,” said Charlotte Forsyth, chief people officer at WorldRemit.

All three players spoke to Harvey about the importance of hard work and perseverance in pursuing his dream of becoming a sports journalist.

Harvey’s mentor on the day was impressed with his work. “He was very attentive, prepared and implemented what we had discussed. He clearly has a passion for writing and knows his sport. He’ll go far if he’s patient,” said Jarrett-Bryan.
