Alex Scott has already got her eyes on the prize ahead of the new Women’s Super League season.
The Arsenal Ladies captain certainly knows what it takes to lift trophies, having helped the Gunners secure an unforgettable quadruple by scoring the winner in the 2007 Uefa Women’s Cup final.
Fast-forward nine years and Scott, Rachel Yankey and Emma Byrne are the only members of that illustrious squad who are still involved in Pedro Martinez Losa’s new-look squad.
"The FA Cup is special as well because it’s being held at Wembley again this year, which is massive for the women’s game. We have our eyes on the league though."
However, the England defender is confident that Arsenal’s five winter signings - Fara Williams, Danielle Van de Donk, Katie McCabe, Josephine Henning and Asisat Oshoala - can help the Gunners secure even more silverware ahead of Wednesday’s WSL opener against Reading.
“We’ve made some fantastic signings and I’m really excited for this group of players that we have,” she told Arsenal.com. “I honestly believe that this year, with the group of players that we have, we can challenge for the league and other titles.
“It’s going to be really competitive though because other teams have done the same. The investment in the women’s game has taken it to the highest level it has ever been at, but that’s what we want. We want it to be competitive and we want our league to be the best in the world.
“It’s such a cliche when we say it but the league really is your bread and butter. If you win the league you are the best team in the division, so that’s the one that we really want to win.
