Summary
Arsenal Ladies reached their fifth successive Continental Cup final with a 3-1 win against Birmingham City on Sunday.
The Gunners secured their place as goals from Marta Corredera, Dan Carter and Alex Scott sealed a convincing victory at Meadow Park.
Kirsty Linnett pulled one back for Birmingham but the Gunners held on to book their place in the final.
Setting the Scene
Pedro Martinez Losa made one change to the side that had beaten Birmingham 1-0 in the Women’s Super League a week ago.
Dominique Janssen came in for Jade Bailey, who dropped to the bench. Elsewhere, Natalia started in attack for the Gunners having scored in her previous two games.
First Half
Arsenal started strongly and went ahead in the 13th minute when Corredera fired into the top corner from outside the box.
Carter doubled their advantage a minute later when she lifted the ball over the on-rushing Sophie Baggaley.
Sari van Veenendaal produced a fantastic save moments before the interval to tip Karen Carney’s strike on to the post.
Second Half
Scott added a third for Arsenal two minutes after the break when she volleyed into the roof of the net after Corredera’s shot had been saved.
Linnett curled a shot into the top corner to pull a goal back for the visitors in the 58th minute.
Carter fired wide of the target by a few inches late on, but Arsenal held on to their lead to reach the final.
