WSL: Everton v Arsenal - Preview

Kelly Smith in action against Chelsea

Kelly Smith has warned her Arsenal team-mates of a potential “bitter” rematch with Everton after the Gunners’ FA Women’s Cup success earlier this season.

Arsenal claimed a record 13th FA Women’s Cup crown on June 1 with a 2-0 victory over the Toffees at stadiummk.

And as the sides prepare to do battle again in FA Women’s Super League 1, Smith says the hosts could be in search of revenge.

"We beat Everton in the FA Cup final so we know their style of play and what they’re about," said Smith.

"It’s certainly a mouth-watering league at the moment with so many teams that can beat each other"

"Everton will be looking at us and thinking they can get three points from us and there will probably be a little bitterness after the cup final from their side."

Arsenal have had a mixed season so far – immediately after lifting the FA Women’s Cup manager Shelley Kerr resigned because of the club’s slow start in WSL 1.
However they have forged a bit of a resurgence of late in reaching the semi-finals of the FA WSL Continental Cup.

And after beating Liverpool in the league at the Select Security Stadium in June, Smith is confident of repeating the feat.

"We beat Liverpool at the same stadium, so we know the pitch and the surroundings," she added.

"It’s certainly a mouth-watering league at the moment with so many teams that can beat each other.

"We are fully committed as a club to do well. We know we’re not in the ideal league position so we obviously want to pick up points and move up the table."

With thanks to the WSL.
