WSL: Arsenal v Everton - Preview

Jordan Nobbs scores against Liverpool

Not every coach can boast a side full of experienced internationals like Emma Byrne, Casey Stoney, Rachel Yankey and Kelly Smith but, at Arsenal Ladies, Pedro Martinez Losa has that luxury.

With more than 450 caps between them, Losa knows exactly what he is going to get when he picks the veterans in his team, and maybe that is why he has been so impressed with the quality of his young players’ performances, especially Jordan Nobbs and Leah Williamson.

Nobbs scored a brace in Arsenal’s 3-3 draw with Liverpool on Sunday, including a goal within 40 seconds of kick-off, and her coach praised how quickly she has regained her form after injury.

"Even if Jordan looks fantastic at the moment, she has a long career and she’s always going to improve playing for us"

“Jordan brings something different,” Losa told Arsenal.com. “Her quality is in her combination play, her understanding of the game in the final third and her winning personality.

“At the same time, she’s still a young player and we have to be careful with her coming back from a long injury. Even if she looks fantastic at the moment, she has a long career and she’s always going to improve playing for us.

“Leah is also young and she’s probably one of the players who has impressed me most in my short time here. She can play in defence and midfield in a very professional capacity.

“The good thing about having these versatile players in your team is that they are always available for whatever you need. That’s the same with Leah and her mentality is phenomenal.

“The more experienced players are good role models for the young players but they know their development depends on them. They have my guidance and confidence but they need to give 100 per cent and play for the team every week.

“That starts against Everton. We want to win every game and we’ve been working really hard since I’ve been here to make sure we get a result in every game ahead of the Continental Cup final on Thursday.”

Tickets for the Everton game will be available from the gate at Boreham Wood FC on Sunday for £5 adults, £2.50 concessions.
