Arsenal Ladies are through to this season's Continental Cup final after a dominant 4-0 victory over Bristol Academy on Monday night.

The Gunners led by a solitary goal at half time thanks to Gemma Davison's opener six minutes before the break.

Laura Harvey's side turned on the style in the second period as goals from Kelly Smith, Rachel Yankey and Jennifer Beattie capped a fine night.

Arsenal, although on top, did not have everything their own way and were forced to wait until the final 20 minutes for their final three goals.

In the first half, Steph Houghton struck the crossbar with a powerful header before drawing an excellent save from goalkeeper Siobhan Chamberlain.

But the visitors eventually took the lead towards the end of the first period whe Davison lashed home a loose clearance.

Bristol came on strong after the interval and saw Natasha Harding's shot cleared off the line before Melissa Lawley nodded over.

Harvey's side's class soon prevailed, however, and they doubled their advantage in the 70th minute through Smith's wonderful 25-yard free-kick. Three minutes later they had a third when Yankey finished off underneath Chamberlain.

Substitute Beattie added the finishing touches to a lethal display after combining with young midfielder Jordan Nobbs.

Arsenal will face Birmingham City in October to defend their crown.
