Julie Fleeting followed up her crucial goal against Umea in midweek with a superb hat-trick against Leicester as Arsenal Ladies strolled through to the Semi Final of the Women’s League Cup.

Goals from Rachel Yankey, Kelly Smith, Ciara Grant and an own goal from the Foxes’ Laura Impey completed the rout for the Gunners who now face Chelsea in the last four.

Yankey handed Vic Akers’ side the lead on the quarter hour when she stabbed home a Laura Bassett cross from close range and they had to wait until eight minutes before the break to double their lead. Kelly smith was felled inside the area and the striker dusted herself down to score her 19th goal in 11 games this season.

Three minutes later Fleeting headed her first of the game from a superb Yankey cross to secure a three-goal half-time advantage.

Five minutes after the break Jayne Ludlow tried her luck from distance only to see her effort cannon into the net off the unfortunate Impey who was trying to scramble the ball clear.

Fleeting’s second was almost a carbon copy of the first as she once again nodded a Yankey cross past the keeper two minutes after the hour mark and the striker secured her hat-trick 11 minutes later. The 28-year-old latched onto a long Emma Byrne goal kick before calmly slotting past the onrushing keeper.

Yankey was once again the provider seven minutes before time when her out-swinging corner was met by a thunderous Grant header at the front post.

The Ladies will now face Chelsea in the Semi-Finals on Sunday, December 7.
