Arsenal secured their place in the Semi-Finals of the FA
Women's Cup with a 6-1 win in their re-arranged tie with
Chelsea.
Seven days after a waterlogged pitch caused the postponement of
the original game, Kelly Smith and Julie Fleeting bagged a brace
apiece to ease Arsenal to victory.
The Gunners face holders Charlton Athletic in the last four,
with northern duo Leeds and Liverpool contesting the other
Semi-Final.
Rachel Yankey gave Arsenal an early lead against the Blues with
the opener after just five minutes. Vic Akers' side, already
missing injured England captain Faye White from their defence, then
lost Leanne Champ to injury after 20 minutes.
However, the Gunners got on with the task in hand and promptly
increased their lead through Lianne Sanderson and Smith.
Sophie Perry temporarily reduced the arrears for Chelsea with a
strike four minutes before the break but Smith's second, on the
hour mark, all but ended the game as a contest.
Scotland international striker Fleeting completed the scoring
with a quick-fire, late double.
