Charlton felt the full force of an Arsenal Ladies backlash as
Vic Akers side smashed seven past the south London outfit.
Arsenal's last outing was the 3-2 defeat by Olympique
Lyonnais, and they set about dispelling all memories of that night
as early as the 20th minute. Jayne Ludlow poked home from close
range after good work by Lianne Sanderson, before Sanderson herself
and Katie Chapman made it 3-0 before the break.
Earlier this month Charlton had frustrated the Ladies until
half-time with some dogged defending, but this time they were not
able to contain the fluid passing and movement of the Gunners.
The hosts forced Emma Byrne into a smart stop midway through the
second half, but as the game became stretched Chapman scored twice,
either side of Yvonne Tracy's first goal of the season, to
complete her hat-trick and a fine performance.
