A ruthless Arsenal Ladies side dispatched their Birmingham
counterparts on Sunday in the Sixth Round of the FA Cup. The win
keeps Vic Akers' side on course for a third successive Final
appearance with lowly Lincoln City waiting in the Semi-Finals.
Arsenal didn't have it all their own way - the visiting
Blues opened the scoring through Becky Hall midway through the
first half. Her well-taken volley was a brief chink of light in a
first-half Birmingham spent largely on the back foot.
Julie Fleeting headed home from a corner to pull the Gunners
level before Lianne Sanderson sprinkled a touch of class on the
occasion with a coolly-taken lob prior to the
break.
Sanderson then continued her fine scoring form, grabbing her
second before an Alex Scott thunderbolt all but sealed victory from
20 yards. Karen Carney then compounded the visitors' woes as
she profited from a blistering Arsenal counter-attack.
Attention now turns to the Semi-Final which takes place on Sunday,
March 16. Everton and Leeds are the other two sides fighting for a
Final berth.
