Arsenal Ladies completed an unbeaten Premier League season with
a 5-3 victory at Doncaster Rovers Belles, three days after securing
a third straight title.
Vic Akers' side had plenty to celebrate after beating
Charlton at Meadow Park on Thursday night but were given a wake-up
call by the Belles, who took the lead after just two minutes
through Camilla Durrant.
The hosts were still in front at the break but a triple
substitution from Akers changed the game. Lianne Sanderson levelled
two minutes after the restart and Julie Fleeting put Arsenal in
front nine minutes later.
Rachel McArthur extended the champions' lead after 69
minutes before the Belles hit back through Emily Heckler's
77th-minute strike.
A grandstand finish looked likely at that point but two goals
inside four minutes from Rachel Yankey and Kelly Smith put Arsenal
out of reach before Vicky Exley grabbed a late consolation for
Doncaster.
