Arsenal Ladies advanced to the Semi-Finals of the County Cup
after an 11-2 victory against London rivals West Ham.
Lianne Sanderson ran the Hammers ragged, scoring five times,
while Lizzie Wicks grabbed a hat-trick. Alex Scott, Laura Coombs
and Gemma Davison were also on target for Vic Akers' side.
This was the second time in three weeks that Arsenal had faced
West Ham and the hosts surprisingly dominated the early
proceedings. They duly took the lead but Arsenal were stung into
action and equalised thanks to a thunderous effort from Scott.
West Ham continued to compete but Arsenal's class told in
the final third and they added five more goals before the break
thanks to Wicks and Sanderson.
Coombs, Sanderson and Davison struck after the restart and,
although West Ham reduced the deficit to 8-2 midway through the
second half, Arsenal rounded off an emphatic win in style.
The Gunners will face Charlton Athletic at home in the County
Cup Semi-Final. The date of this fixture has yet to be
confirmed.
