Find out more about the beginnings of Arsenal's official Club mascot...
During the rebuild of the North Bank at Highbury Stadium in the summer of 1993, as the builders dug down deep for the foundations they discovered a very large egg, therefore all work ceased!
The egg was warm so we knew that there was ‘something’ inside, we moved it to a safe place on the site and wrapped it in Arsenal blankets – then to everyone’s amazement the egg started to crack… We were shocked and surprised when out popped a baby dinosaur! Within weeks the baby dinosaur grew to seven feet tall. Of course we had to call the dino Gunnersaurus Rex – Gunner for short!
He made his debut at Highbury for our match against Manchester City in the League on 20th August, 1994. We won the match 3–0.
