GGG19: Liam Brady v Tottenham Hotspur, 1978

It's time to reveal the Gunners' Greatest 50 Goals - as voted for by Arsenal's fans.

"Look at that! Oh, look at that!" Those words, screamed by commentator John Motson, greeted the strike which is ranked at No 19 in our list of the Gunners' Greatest 50 Goals.

iam Brady was the scorer and one wonders if he ever struck a ball as sweetly as he did on that famous day at White Hart Lane in 1978. The Irishman's effort capped a wonderful 5-0 win for Arsenal and even overshadowed Alan Sunderland's hat-trick in the same game.

Brady at his best

Brady's goal came in the second half. Arsenal had launched an attack down the right-hand side but Spurs smuggled the ball away from their penalty area. Peter Taylor picked up possession 25 yards from his own goal and tried to turn away from Brady as he came charging in from midfield to make a challenge.
Brady won the ball cleanly and advanced to the edge of the box before looking up and striking across the ball with his left foot. That made his fierce shot curl from right to left and find the top corner. The Spurs goalkeeper, Mark Kendall, didn't stand a chance.
The scorer ran to the travelling Arsenal fans, packed behind that same goal, to receive their acclaim. This was Brady at his brilliant best and he would end that season as the PFA  Player of the Year.
