This well-travelled Swedish midfielder only spent one year at Highbury but he did enough to win over the fans and make a lasting impression.
Schwarz was relatively well-known when George Graham signed him from Benfica in the summer of 1994, mainly because he had just helped Sweden to a third-place finish at the World Cup in the United States.
He was billed as the midfield playmaker Arsenal had needed since David Rocastle left for Leeds two years earlier, but in truth Schwarz was not a schemer. He was tigerish in the tackle, courageous and a tireless worker, but his passing was precise rather than penetrative.
The Swede certainly gave the Gunners steel in the centre and he was a pivotal figure in the Club's run to the 1995 European Cup Winners' Cup Final.
