James Boyle was a half back by trade but played four matches in goal for Woolwich Arsenal in the 1895/96 season.
Boyle joined from Celtic in November 1893 and made his debut in the Club's first-ever league campaign against Northwich Victoria later that month.
He played 11 times in his first season before winning a regular place the following campaign, when he made 29 appearances.
Boyle, a versatile player who also featured as a centre forward on occasions, scored nine goals in 66 matches for the Club.
He was reduced to a fringe role in his final two seasons at the Manor Ground and left in 1897 before joining Dartford.
