WHAT HAPPENED

We suffered our third league defeat of the season on Sunday as we were beaten 2-1 by Manchester City at Meadow Park.

Jordan Nobbs, Kim Little and Jen Beattie unfortunately missed out through injury, while Leah Williamson started with the captain’s armband for the first time in her career.

We dominated possession throughout the entirety of the first half, but we failed to carve out any clear-cut chances, and following a defensive error, Ellen White fired the visitors into the lead with a smart finish from close range.

We stepped things up in the second 45, though, as we played with more aggression and purpose in the final third, until Jill Roord teed up Caitlin Foord on the counter for an impressive equaliser.

The Australia international has now scored seven Women’s Super League goals this season.

But despite our dominance in possession, City remained a threat in transition, and with just over 10 minutes remaining, Lauren Hemp climbed high inside the area to head Chloe Kelly’s cross beyond Manuela Zinsberger.
