We reclaimed our place at the top of the Women’s Super League on Sunday as we ran out 5-1 winners over Liverpool at Prenton Park.
Vivianne Miedema scored her 20th league goal of the season, while Viktoria Schnaderbeck made her first appearance for the club following a lengthy spell of the sidelines.
We should have been leading inside five minutes when Kim Little failed to hit the target from a dangerous position inside the box - but it didn’t dent our captain’s confidence, as she scored less than 15 minutes later.
Katie McCabe received the ball on the left wing, charged down the line and picked out Little, who found the back of the net with a first-time finish.
It was the perfect start and less than two minutes later we doubled our advantage through Beth Mead, who fired home from close range following a stunning pass from Miedema.
We extended our lead at the start of the second when Mead struck her second with a deft chip over Anke Preuss and into the back of the net.
Many in the crowd believed that it was a cross, but it was no fluke. The England international has made a real habit of scoring from tight angles this season.
Shortly after Dominique Bloodworth made it four with a diving header, before Courtney Sweetman-Kirk pulled one back for the Reds from the penalty spot.
We continued to push on, though, and in the 84th minute Miedema scored the pick of the bunch.
The Netherlands international fooled three defenders and the keeper with a fake shot, before turning once more and chipping the ball into the back of the net. It was the perfect goal to round off a stunning attacking performance.
