Four goals from Vivianne Miedema and a wonder strike from Kim Little saw us record a 5-0 win over Juventus Women at Meadow Park on Sunday.
WHAT HAPPENED
We kicked off the game in the greatest possible fashion, with Miedema converting from close range inside the fourth minute.
Lisa Evans broke free down the right wing and drilled the ball across the face of goal, leaving the Dutch forward the simple task of firing home from eight yards.
Moments later, Evans wriggled free again and fizzed a right-footed strike beyond the far post, before Danielle van de Donk’s goalbound effort was denied by a stunning last-ditch tackle.
But on the stroke of half-time we managed to double our lead through Miedema, who picked up the ball 25 yards from goal, stormed into the box and found the bottom right corner with great composure.
Juventus would have hoped to regroup following the break, but Miedema clearly had other plans and completed her hat-trick with a simple first-time tap-in five yards from goal.
Little then made it four with a sensational effort from the edge of the box, before Miedema rounded off the scoring with a powerful left-footed strike beyond the reach of Laura Giuliani.
WHAT’S NEXT
We must now turn our attention to our pre-season trip to France, where we will compete in the Toulouse International Ladies Cup alongside Paris Saint Germain, Bayern Munchen and Montpellier.
