WHAT HAPPENED
Our under-18s booked their place in the quarter-finals of FA Youth Cup on Saturday as they ran out 4-1 winners over Blackburn Rovers.
It was the Rovers who knocked us out at the quarter-final stage last season, but this time around Ken Gillard’s side claimed revenge, delivering an attacking performance of the highest quality.
Khayon Edwards opened the scoring with just nine minutes on the clock, raching behind Blackburn’s defence and latching on to Brooke Norton-Cuffy’s through ball. The keeper looked set to claim his searching pass, but failed to take control of the situation and Edwards was on hand to finish into an open goal.
Kido Taylor-Hart then went on to double our advantage, cutting inside from the left on a dangerous counter-attack and fizzing the ball into the top corner.
It was a stunning strike from the 18-year-old winger, but the best of the bunch arrived on the stroke of half-time, as Miguel Azeez picked up the ball 30 yards from goal and found the top-right corner in style.
Rovers pulled one back just one minute after the restart with Zak Gilsenan converting from close range, but we restored our three-goal advantage late on when Brooke Norton-Cuffy raced forward on the break to convert Mazeed Ogungbo’s rebound.
