WHAT HAPPENED
Our under-18s suffered a disappointing 3-0 defeat to West Brom in the U-18 Premier League South on Saturday.
Khayon Edwards returned in attack for Ken Gillard’s side - but we were unable to break down a resilient Baggies outfit.
The visitors came into this fixture boasting the second best away record in the division, and they made it count early on as Mo Faal converted Tom Fellows’ delivery with a thumping header.
Omari Hutchinson then fired over the bar from the edge of the area, before Henry Jeffcott combined with Nathan Butley-Oyedeji and found himself through on goal, only to lose composure and fire over.
We should have been level after that promising spell of possession, but on the stroke of half-time West Brom doubled their advantage as Rico Richards controlled Fellows’ delivery and guided a header into the far corner.
Following the restart, Butler-Oyedeji came close to reducing the deficit when he stung the gloves of Jamie Emery, before Hutchinson’s curling effort was cleared away.
We continued to push forward, hoping to spark a late comeback, but this left us exposed on the counter and with just over five minutes remaining, Jacob Shephard made it three for the Baggies, converting a cutback from close range.
