WHAT HAPPENED
Our under-18s continued their promising run with a confident win at Swansea City courtesy of strikes from Xavier Amaechi, Tyreece John-Jules and Bukayo Saka.
Amaechi made it four goals in as many games for himself since returning from injury, when he opened the scoring after just seven minutes.
The midfielder twisted and turned inside the area, taking five Swansea defenders with him and wrong-footed the goalkeeper with a fine finish.
In search of an equaliser, the hosts upped the pressure and thought they had brought the scores level when Matthew Roberts headed in, only for the linesman to flag him for offside.
Trae Coyle, keen to add to our lead, did well to race in behind Swansea’s backline down the left hand-side, but could only blaze his effort over the crossbar.
It took until the 77th minute for another goal to come and it was John-Jules who finished coolly at the near post to double our lead.
John-Jules soon turned creator, threading Saka in behind, who in turn slotted the ball under the goalkeeper to round off the scoring.
WHAT IT MEANS
Victory sees us remain in second place in the league, six points behind leaders Chelsea and two ahead of third-placed Leicester City.
WHAT’S NEXT
Kwame Ampadu’s side take on Sheffield Wednesday in their next fixture in the FA Youth Cup at Meadow Park, hoping to stretch their winning run to six games.
