WHAT HAPPENED

We were well beaten by Manchester City in the lunchtime kick off on Saturday on a disappointing afternoon at the Etihad Stadium.

We came into the game chasing our first Premier League win of the campaign, and fresh from a 6-0 victory at West Bromwich Albion in the Carabao Cup.

Mikel Arteta named a back three, with Sead Kolasinac starting alongside Rob Holding and Calum Chambers as we attempted to stifle the champions.

But seven minutes in the hosts took the lead as Gabriel Jesus crossed for Ilkay Gundogan to head home at the far post, and they doubled their advantage not long afterwards when Ferran Torres tapped home inside the area.

Martin Odegaard nearly pulled one back when he blocked an Ederson clearance and the ball skidded just wide of the far post, but that was as good as it got in the first half.

Granit Xhaka was then shown a straight red card for a tackle on Joao Cancelo, and City added their third before the interval when Jack Grealish crossed for Jesus to score from close range.

Rodri added a fourth after the break for the champions, before Torres scored his second of the afternoon to round off an unhappy afternoon for Arteta’s side.

WHAT’S NEXT

We now head into the international break, before returning to Premier League action on Saturday, September 11 when Norwich visit Emirates Stadium.

A trip to Burnley follows the week after, before AFC Wimbledon are in north London for our Carabao Cup third-round clash.
