Emirates Cup returns with Sevilla FC clash

Emirates Cup v Sevilla

We are delighted to announce the Emirates Cup will return this summer with a clash against six-time UEFA Europa League winning side, Sevilla FC.

The match will take place at Emirates Stadium on Saturday, July 30, 2022, with kick-off taking place at 12:30pm BST.

The game will also give an opportunity to remember the late José Antonio Reyes, who was a favourite amongst both sets of supporters during his tenure with Sevilla FC and Arsenal throughout the early 2000’s.

The fixture will follow our tour to the United States where we will play Everton in Baltimore and Orlando City and Chelsea in Orlando as part of our preparations for the 2022/23 season.

This year’s Emirates Cup will be the eleventh edition of the tournament, which has been a regular part of our pre-season schedule since our move to Emirates Stadium and has featured a number of leading teams including AC Milan, Paris St Germain, Benfica, Valencia, Inter Milan, Juventus as well as Sevilla FC, who took part in 2017.

“We’re delighted to have the Emirates Cup back on our pre-season schedule,” said Mikel Arteta. “Our fans have been magnificent this season. They’ve created such a strong connection with the team and it will be great to kick off a new season in front of our home supporters. Our pre-season schedule is shaping up nicely with some good games against strong opposition. The match against Sevilla will be a big test for us and it will be a great occasion for our fans.”

Sevilla FC's Sport CEO, Ramón Rodríguez, Monchi, said: "It is an honour for our club to be invited to take part in this prestigious match against one of the Premier League's most important rivals. It will be an excellent opportunity to test the level of our team at this stage of the pre-season against an opponent that always has a very strong squad. In addition, it will be emotional to remember our much missed José Antonio Reyes with the team where he is most loved after our own home".

Richard Jewsbury, Emirates’ Divisional Vice President, United Kingdom, said: “We are thrilled that the Emirates Cup is returning this summer and we are proud to continue our involvement which first started in 2007.  We look forward to experiencing an exciting and high-quality encounter in front of a packed Emirates Stadium.”
