Arsenal in the Community

Health & Wellbeing

We deliver weekly sessions delivered in the local community to promote adult health, wellbeing and a sense of being connected to their community. All of our Health & Wellbeing projects are supported by the Premier League Charitable Fund and PLPFA.

The focus in this area is to help tackle health inequalities in our local communities by providing meaningful interventions, ongoing sessions and wellbeing support that meets local needs.

By connecting more closely with local government, NHS departments and Public Health, we are looking to further develop our health and wellbeing offering in the coming months and years. We are currently developing projects that include weight management for men, exercise options for various ages and specialist activities for those with long-term health conditions.

Our projects include…

Arsenal Bowls
Engages around 80 older people from the local community each week, and as well as providing an opportunity to be active, the social element of the sessions is just as important.

Stride On: Walking Football for people affected by Parkinson’s Disease
In partnership with The Whittington NHS Trust, we are now running a walking football project specifically for people living with Parkinson’s Disease. Exercise is proven to slow the progression of Parkinson’s and we believe the best exercise is the one you enjoy the most.

Stride On: Walking Football for Men affected by Prostate Cancer
Arsenal in the Community are teaming up with the UCLH Cancer Fund to deliver a walking football project specifically for men affected by Prostate Cancer.

Pulmonary Rehab
Arsenal in the Community are now delivering the exercise element of Islington’s community pulmonary rehab programme.

Strength & Balance
A chair-based exercise programme for over-55s living in Islington.

Total Body Workout
These traditional exercise classes make use of resistance bands, slam balls, exercise mats and your own body weight to provide a “total body workout”.

Family Fitness
These sessions are aimed at families who need support in terms of cooking and physical activity education.

Walking Football
Walking football sessions are aimed at over-50s or those with limiting health conditions that do not allow them to play the full game of football.

Shape Up
Shape Up is 12-week weight-management programme specifically designed for men.

Our Health & Wellbeing programmes are supported by the Premier League and Professional Footballers Association. Administered through the Premier League Charitable Fund, the funding helps football clubs to tackle inequality and respond to local challenges, supporting people and their communities to be more inclusive.

This season 24 professional football club community organisations across the Premier League and English Football League are delivering projects supported by the Premier League and PFA in their Communities.

Nationally, these funded projects have engaged more than 230,000 unique participants in more than 330,000 sessions across England and Wales. Projects are supported by current and former professional football players, and scholars, to enhance their impact on participants.
