Arsenal Bowls Ian Wright

The Arsenal Bowls Programme has been running since the formation of Arsenal in the Community in the mid-1980s.

Sessions took place in the JVC Indoor Sports Centre behind the Clock End at Arsenal Stadium, Highbury until 2006, but with the move to Emirates Stadium we expanded the programme and currently run eight short mat bowls sessions across the week. These take place in community centres in partnership with Islington Council as well as at The Arsenal Hub at Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal Bowls engages around 80 older people from the local community each week, and as well as providing an opportunity to be active, the social element of the sessions is just as important.

In addition to the sessions, bowls matches against visiting teams are held on Club Level at Emirates Stadium. Many participants are also members of Finsbury Park Bowls Club, where they can turn their hand to lawn bowls during the summer. The Arsenal bowlers have also represented Islington at the London Games.

As well as bowls, the programme includes a weekly outdoor walk for participants on Highbury Fields, as well as other group activities such as museum visits and cookery classes.
