Mavididi - How Wrighty has helped me

With the help of Arsenal legend Ian Wright, Stephy Mavididi came back with a bang last week, scoring a brace in a 4-0 over Boreham Wood, following his five-month injury lay-off.

Wright, who scored 185 times for us during his time at the club, imparted some words of wisdom to the youngster, who had suffered a hamstring injury while on loan with Charlton Athletic.

“After I got injured I got a phone call from Wrighty and he was just giving me some advice and just being really nice to me and helping me,” Mavididi told Arsenal.com.

“He just said that I’m still young, that I’ve got a big future ahead of me, just to keep looking at the bigger picture. In the bigger picture it’s a minor setback, only five months out of the game and just keep working hard and come back stronger.

“You’ve just got to be mentally strong and take it day by day, and as the day goes that’s a day closer to fitness, so you've just got to keep digging and just pull through.

“We’re still keeping in contact, so yeah that was a nice touch from Wrighty and Karl Robinson too, to put me in contact with him."

Tonight Mavididi continues his comeback, as we take on Leyton Orient at Brisbane Road. Kick-off is at 7.45pm.
