WHAT HAPPENED

We were crowned champions of the U-18 Premier League South on Saturday following a hard-fought 3-0 win over Fulham.

The scoreline made it look like a routine win - but this was anything but, as we scored three goals in the final 15 minutes to secure all three points.

We dominated the opening exchanges, with Matt Smith and Folarin Balogun finding plenty of space in the final third - but we were handed an early reminder of the hosts’ attacking threat, when Tom Smith made a smart save to deny Timmy Abraham on the counter.

The remainder of the first half proved to be a cagey affair, as both sides struggled with the heavy wind - and the majority of the second half followed a similar narrative.

There was a brief scare when Smith picked up Mark McGuinness’ backpass and gifted the hosts an indirect free-kick - but they failed to convert their golden opportunity and this sparked us back into life.

Vontae Daley-Campbell had been faultless all afternoon, continuously bombing forward from defence - and this time he produced the goods, latching onto a loose ball inside the area to find the bottom right corner. What a time to score your first goal of the season.

Almost instantly after, Balogun broke free down the right, lost his marker and found the bottom left corner for his 28th goal of the season, before Trae Coyle rounded off the scoring deep into injury time with a thumping finish at the near post, removing the possibility of any late drama.
