Iwobi wins CAF Youth Player of the Year

Alex Iwobi

After another 12 months of progress, Alex Iwobi has been named as the Youth Player of the Year at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) awards.

The Nigeria forward scored four goals and claimed five assists for us during an impressive 2016, most notably scoring on his first two Arsenal starts and playing 72 minutes of our Champions League tie against Barcelona at the Nou Camp.

Iwobi also impressed on the international stage, scoring his first goal for Nigeria in the Super Eagles’ World Cup qualifier against Zambia while establishing himself as a key member of Gernot Rohr’s exciting forward line.

The 20-year-old fought off tough competition from Eric Ayiah (Ghana), Franck Kessie (Ivory Coast), Sidiki Maiga (Mali) and Sandra Owusu-Ansah (Ghana) to win the award.
